You know you want that high-output, all natural, 190 hp and 160 lb-ft of torque producing Quad 4 engine. Mmph! 7,200 rpm redline. Mmph, mmph! Wheels downsized to 14' but tires bumped up to 215s. Mmmmmph! Check out this 0-60:

I’m telling you Oppo, this is the kind of “slow car fast” the journalists are talking about.

My mother had such a great experience with the Achieva (and a terrible one with a Cutlass) that I still have a soft spot for it. She had a Geo Metro before it, and I have a soft spot for the little guy too. My first car was a $400 Geo Tracker. Didn’t die!

Trackers are so underated. Quad4 will forever be tainted by the chain driven water pump that’s both prone to failure and impossible to get to.

Mine was pretty beaten up. Driver side door wasn’t hinged so couldn’t open it (or else door would be on ground), passenger side only opened from the inside, torn up rag top, and no climate controls or radio. Did get hings for the hood though after it flew up into the windshield! Drove it through the end of High School and first 3 semesters of University. Got my first girlfriend because she thought it was cool I never complained about it, especially climbing through the back plastic rear window to open her door, like a true gentleman!

We dated for I want to say 4 years before life differences pull us apart. Dated/got engaged to someone else for about 4 months but that was...a life lesson. I figure third time will be the charm, so I’m avoiding it.

You done good, Geo Tracker, you done good.

Mmm yes. I’m a fan of the Beretta GTZ as well. It also got the high output Quad 4 but no W41. I believe someone on the Beretta forums back in the day made their own W41 GTZ, though.

It’s supposed to be a 7 second car I would assume. Altitude, Age, and Actual real world testing give you some differences. I would love to feel sea-level performance in ANY vehicle.

Well according to that video it’s a lot slower haha... The slush box certainly is not helping but still. Hey, at least it sounds alright :)

those kinds of power/torque numbers from a non-boosted 4-banger were big news back then. too bad GM initially left out the balance shafts.

I remember driving a couple of them; GM being GM they didn’t want the cost of balance shafts at first. extremely buzzy and annoying to drive.

My dad had two achievas. The first, a blue one, was bought new and driven till it’s death from water pump failure. The second, a white one, was bought as a joke for $800 because we all hated the first.

Haha, my only long term personal experience with GM was with a 1995 lt1 Corvette which was very good albeit a crappy chassis, but it’s impressive how slow the thing is considering how much power it has..

Sounds almost exactly like my brother’s Tracker. He got it in high school with nearly 200k on it, rotted top, no AC, etc and drove the thing hard as it became more and more mad maxed and continued to embarrass the brodozers in the mud..

I kind of want a Quad 4 for something, but that something is an Offenhauser/Miller midget replica. Not an Achieva to actually drive, though I do love me some Oldsmosmobile

I’ve always thought the Achieva was a highly underrated car, especially for it’s era. Really handsome design, to boot. Certainly more generally acceptable than it’s Buick Skylark brethren (another car I’m actually rather fond of), but also more styled and less generic looking than it’s Pontiac relative, the Grand Am, especially in the sedan, with it’s partially covered rear wheelwell.

Also, in my opinion, the second best looking Olds of the brand’s final era (90's to 2004), behind both generations of Aurora.
